The course is designed to give participants;

• A deep and practical understanding of 'BIA' and its role in the community
• A working knowledge of written and spoken 'Kiswahili'
• A summary of the history of Kenya from its pre-history to the modern day
• Involvement in local cultural activities
• An understanding of the big issues relating to HIV/AIDS
• An oppurtunity to climb Mt Elgon accompanied by local park rangers and porters
• Visits to local museums, historical sites and an anmal sanctuary
• A range of sporting activities on the campus nearby
